A solo piano arrangement of this cheerful, catchy traditional French carol. I’ve altered some of the harmonies and bass notes as the piece progresses, added a key change towards the end, and closed it with a playful ending.
Ideal for a pianist who enjoys music with a bit of mischief in it. It’s a short piece, so it works well as an opening number for a Christmas concert.
This carol was often played on the loudspeakers of our street in Beirut, Lebanon, during Christmas when I was a little boy — the tune stuck with me, and always gave me a cheerful feeling. I recorded this arrangement for my TRIBUTES piano album (2021) almost as a tribute to those memories; I had no set arrangement in mind until I sat at the piano during the first recording session and just let my fingers find it. It turned out to be one of my favourite tracks on that album, so I decided to open with it.
